During the COVID-19 pandemic, some essential break locations for drivers are closing completely, or closing certain amenities such as showers and restaurants. Our COVID-19 Safe Haven web app is a free service that can provide you with access to up-to-date information on truck stop status and amenity information in the U.S. and Canada. With this app, you can:
- Identify truck stops and rest areas that are closed
- View available amenities
- Find Walmart locations with overnight parking
- View live traffic and weather
- Help your peers by telling us whether a location is open or closed

Searching for an open rest stop
There are three ways to search for a stop:
- Search by location or by name in the search bar.
- Zoom in on the map. On mobile devices you can pinch, drag, and pull as you would to zoom in on a photo. On a desktop computer, you can click and drag the map to a location, and then zoom in by using the scroll wheel on a mouse or by clicking on the "+" and "-" buttons on the upper, right-hand side of the map.
- Use your current location. Tap or click on the target on the bottom, left-hand side of the screen to zoom to your current location. (The application will request your permission to use your location.)
Finding a rest stop's details
Fuel and truck stops are marked on the map with a fuel dispenser icon; Walmart overnight parking locations are noted by an icon with the Walmart logo; and rest areas are marked by a picnic table icon.
A red badge on an icon indicates that location has been confirmed to be closed.
Once you have located a stop you'd like to learn more about, tap or click on the icon to bring up its full details.
How you can help
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our team of GIS engineers and digital cartographers will continually be checking to verify which rest stops remain open as well as whether they continue to offer certain amenities. You can help us keep this information up to date with your own experiences on the front lines.
If you notice that any of the information about a location is incorrect, please tap or click on the information. For individual amenities, a check mark indicates the amenity is available, while an X shows it's closed. Tap or click on the amenity to change its status.
If you know that a stop is definitely open or closed, please tap or click on that button to confirm.
The information you submit will be independently verified by our mapping experts before it is published to the web app.
Map settings, weather, real-time traffic, and COVID-19 data
In addition to rest stop information, covid19.trimblemaps.com can be used to view weather and traffic information to help plan for what's ahead on your route. These settings are available using the map buttons on the upper, right-hand side of your screen. You can:
Select a map style
Add real-time traffic, weather, and road conditions to your map
Tap or click on a "content layer" to add it to your map. Tap or click on it again to remove it from the map.
Displays current traffic conditions on the map. Best results are seen at closer zoom levels.
Shows weather conditions via radar.
Road Conditions Layer
Displays current road conditions, as available. Zoom in for best results.
Alerts are color-coded on the map. Click on a colored area to read more about the alert.
View COVID-19 data
The bottom map button allows you to view the number of COVID-19 cases, by county, across the U.S. (Source: Johns Hopkins University)
Tap or click on a circle on the map to view data for that area.
Who can access the app?
Anyone in the transportation industry can access our free web app. The web app is available on desktop or mobile. No login or email address is required.
How often is Trimble MAPS updating the information in the app?
Our team of GIS engineers and digital cartographers are making updates daily. Our goal is to verify and publish user-submitted updates within 24 hours.
How will users be made aware of updates in the app?
The app includes a news feed that you can view by tapping or clicking on the bell icon at the top, right-hand corner of your screen.
How long will the app be accessible?
We will keep this app live and updated as long as we need to in order to serve our the needs of our transportation community.
